Nishikatsura is situated in the Katsura River valley, near the Northern foot of
Mt. Fuji, between the cities of
Fujiyoshida and
Tsuru, in South Central Yamanashi Prefecture. Nishikatsura is the departure point for climbs of Mt. Mitsutouge, which affords unhindered views of Mt. Fuji. Nishikatsura is home to numerous small textile plants, which manufacture neckties and umbrellas. Nishikatsura is also famous for pure, clean water.
Nishikatsura has an active sister city relationship with
Guilin, China. Nishikatsura "西桂" and Guilin "桂林" both use the kanji character "桂", which means "
Judas Tree" in Japanese.
